Winter Residencies - Banff Artist in Residence (BAiR)

The Banff Centre Visual + Digital Art Walter Phillips Gallery Canada The Banff Centre Indigenous Residency Guest Faculty: Candice Hopkins, others to be announced Program dates: January 11–February 12, 2016 Apply by September 2 This self-led residency invites indigenous visual artists, curators, writers, and cultural producers from all nations around the world to come together, create new work, and discuss topics pertinent to their culture and contemporary indigenous art practice. Banff Artist in Residence (BAiR) BAiR programs in Visual + Digital Arts provide professional development opportunities for artists by opening up new possibilities and directions in the production of their work. Our knowledgeable staff will be on hand to offer technical support and provide access to facilities in photography, sculpture, printmaking, papermaking, ceramics, fibre, video, digital technology, and more. BAiR New Materiality Program dates: January 11–February 12, 2016 Apply by September 2 Banff Artist in Residence (BAiR) New Materiality is a contemporary art residency that challenges participants to engage with materials in unconventional ways and push the boundaries of traditional artistic mediums. As well as having the space to create, research, and experiment using our extensive on-campus production facilities, in this five-week intensive residency you will be part of a community of artists, curators, and creative practitioners, each committed to their practice. Walter Phillips Gallery curator and 2017 Alberta Biennial co-curator Peta Rake will be on hand to provide consultation and curatorial insights through studio visits. BAiR late winter intensive Program dates: February 29–March 25, 2016 Apply by September 30 Throughout a period of four weeks, participants will benefit from the insight and consultation of guest curator Naomi Potter (Esker Foundation) through studio visits, participant-driven critique, artist presentations, and demonstrations in visual art production techniques. Scheduled programming is light and designed to allow for ample time to work on individual self-directed projects or collaborate with others. Practicum opportunities The Arts Practicum program is an intense experiential learning opportunity that marries technical training in the arts and arts administration with hands-on, real world experiences.
